Hi friends,
Greetings from Cape Town!
Two weeks in Cape Town. One left to go. Then: to visit other places in Southern Africa with an amigo.
Poem: I Visited The Aquarium!
New parents, this is for you! Best places you can take young kids. Fun for them, fun for you. Fun for the whole family!
A few highlights:
Daddy seahorses give birth
Sharks have to move or they suffocate
Waves are caused by the Sun and Moon’s gravity
Rear fins are used for acceleration; side fins for balance
Avicii famously said, “Live a life you will remember…” My goal is to curate experiences so you can maximally enjoy life. 🥂
Best Things I Watched
1. Never Have I Ever. Thanks Sarah for recommending this show to me! I saw the first episode. Nice lively touch. Great wind-down activity on a weekday with a partner. As for me, I plan to watch more comedy. Monty Python and the British Office are next. 😎
2. Giri / Haji. A crossover of Japanese and English television, set in Tokyo and London. The show explores the idea of paying for somebody else's sins. Which I find horrendous. Imagine being punished for something your parents did (or vice versa). But historically, and in some countries today, this is considered fair. Yakuza (“good for nothing”) gangsters practice a ritual called yubitsume, where you amputate a finger to settle a score between two warring families. An eye for an eye. Which only works if it’s a one-time deal. Otherwise, an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.
3. House of the Dragon. My favorite show of 2022. Game of Thrones enthusiasts will love. David Peterson created the fictional language High Valyrian for the show, which you can also find on Duolingo! As linguists and computer scientists know, a language is composed of two parts. Syntax (what it looks like) and semantics (what it means). The former is letters, words, sentences; alphabet and composition. The latter is interpretation and meaning. I’m preparing a CS workshop where I compare & contrast High Valyrian to other programming languages. But more on that later!
As always, thanks for reading. Book curations will continue next week!
Happy Hump Day,

“CS workshop where I compare & contrast High Valyrian to other programming languages.” Ooooooh I’m intrigued! This is an awesome issue, Leo. I love the variety of topics in this. 💙💙💙
Still don't understand why male seahorses aren't just classified as female
