你好 from Hong Kong!
Behold, my favorite view in the world:
I'm staying here for a few days, then onto Vietnam for Month #3 in New Year, New Me (My year of travel). The story continues...
To be sincere for a minute.. My desire to travel is rather surface-level. Really, I left my job out of desperation. The pain of staying became too great — unbearable. So I had to leap.
Best Things I Read
Klara et le Soleil. Japanese / British author Kazuo Ishiguro writes about an AI companion. It’s a “feels” book. After reading the first chapter, I thought I’d read it in French. Either I have an inner romantic, or I just like the way the language looks on a page.
Sex at Dawn. A long time ago, both men and women had multiple sexual partners. Prehistoric tribes were governed by fierce egalitarianism. Everything was shared, including sex. Tribes had max 150 people, so everybody knew each other—you weren’t hooking up with strangers. Then the agricultural revolution brought the idea of private property (and indeed, women were treated as such for a while). Culture evolves faster than biology.
Art. Reflecting on my writing process… I treat my writing as art, which I believe to be closer to my truth. The words flow through me. The harder I push myself, the harder it becomes. Instead of setting explicit deadlines, I rely on an internal clock. When it's time, it's time. Kapil Gupta understands the creative process better than anyone. Read the PDF here.
Dance. Speaking of what moves me, seeing this dance choreography filled me with joy. Riot Games, creator of League of Legends, makes these spectacles every year, a POP concert blended with 3D projections. They get better every year. Give it a watch.
All the best, friends!
